This organization supports education through cooperation with local schools and learning experiences through speakers and travel. It promotes patriotism in its community, service to veterans, and endeavors to encourage historic preservation in its surrounding area.
To be eligible for membership, an applicant must be 18 years of age and be able to prove lineal descendance from a man or woman who aided in the cause of American independence during the revolutionary period. The ancestor may have served as a sailor, a soldier, a civil officer or as a recognized patriot at that time.
MEETINGS - The Carter Braxton Chapter, NSDAR, meets at the Chapter House on a Saturday September through April, and a Wednesday in May. Members, prospective members, and guests are encouraged to bring a lunch and the chapter provides beverages and dessert. Meeting dates and programs are subject to change.
A TYPICAL MEETING might be awarding a certificate and medal to a student for presentation of an excellent history essay or cleaning up a cemetery, or gathering and supplying backpacks with toiletries, clothing, and toys for foster children.
MEMBERS are of varied backgrounds and ages. Represented are teachers, accountants, fundraisers, nurses, retirees, etc.
